Britain's newspapers have been dealt a further advertising blow because the government is planning to switch much of its recruitment advertising to online media. The government's advertising is thought to account for 12% of the UK recruitment market, worth £1.2bn. The Department of Trade and Industry is holding talks with publishers in a bid to soften the blow. Among those most affected by the switch would be The Guardian which has a steady income from public sector job ads. Guardian editor Alan Rusbridger said two days ago that classified advertising could vanish from papers by 2020. Maybe it'll be sooner. (Via Brand Republic)
