Government issue coronavirus alert by text message

The Government have today issued a coronavirus alert by text message, reinforcing the request: "you must stay at home."

The message arrives just hours after Prime Minister Boris Johnson addressed the national and put the UK on effective lockdown.

As of yesterday, 499 Scots have tested positive for the virus, resulting in 14 deaths, while a total of 335 deaths across the UK have been recorded.

In a bid to slow the spread of COVID-19, Britons have been told they can only leave the house once a day to shop for basic necessities and that daily exercise is limited to groups of no more than two people.

Meanwhile, you can travel to and from work, but only if it is "absolutely necessary" and you cannot work from home.

Today's text reemphasises the implementation of last night's measures, saying: "New rules in force now: you must stay at home.

"Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives."

Meanwhile, the message links to government website on coronavirus, which further advises:

Stay at home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (where this absolutely cannot be done from home)

  • Stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people

  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

Anyone can spread the virus.
