Government maps out way for Liverpool and Everton to make Premier League return

The Government has revealed no professional sport will be played in England until at least June, ruling out even the potential of behind-closed-doors matches until that point.

Following Sunday evening's message from Boris Johnson to the nation, plans from the Prime Minister for a "roadmap" out of lockdown were released on Monday in a 51-page document.

The potential return of professional sport has been labelled in the second stage of potential adjustments, which will not take place before June 1.

The document read that "permitting cultural and sporting events to take place behind-closed-doors for broadcast, while avoiding the risk of large-scale social contact", could be permitted from the start of next month.

The Premier League has been suspended indefinitely since March, with the top 20 clubs meeting via video conference once again on Monday to establish more clarity on the future of the current campaign.

The latest statement from the organisation reiterated that completing the season was the priority, with matches potentially being played at neutral venues being discussed.

However, there is rumoured to still be a dispute around the methods of finishing the term among some of the clubs in the division.

The Premier League are expected to release a further statement on the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign later on Monday.
