Govan Graving Docks transformed as Hollywood director Sam Mendes begins filming WWI epic 1917

The latest Hollywood blockbuster to be shot in Glasgow has arrived - and eagle-eyed fans are desperate for a glimpse at a star or two.

As reported on Glasgow Live, Steven Spielberg’s 1917, a WWI epic with Sam Mendes in the director’s chair, will be filming at Govan Graving Docks at the end of the week.

Crews have been building the set around the ruined docks for months - but the cameras are in place from today (Tuesday, June 11) with road closures across Govan as a result.

There’s no sign of the film’s stars just yet, although Colin Firth, Benedict Cumberbatch and Richard Madden are all on the cast list.

Will they come to Glasgow over the next few days? If you’re out star spotting then let us know!

In the meantime, Sam Mendes - the Academy Award winner behind James Bond films Skyfall and Spectre - has been seen on the Clydeside, as shown in the photos below.

Filming wraps on Friday (June 14), although the crew have use of the docks until the end of the month.

We’ll bring you any info as soon as we have it - in the meantime, here’s a list of the A-listers involved in the movie, so you know who to look out for.

1917 is scheduled for release in the UK on January 10, 2020.
