Google's Omid Kordestani named Twitter executive chairman

Oct. 14--Omid Kordestani, Google's former chief business officer, has been named executive chairman of Twitter Inc.

The announcement was tweeted Wednesday morning by Twitter Chief Executive Jack Dorsey, who called Kordestani a "proven and experienced leader."

"A great chairperson is the first step towards continuing to make our Board one of the best in the world, and purpose-built to serve Twitter," Dorsey said.

He said Kordestani will help and coach him and the rest of Twitter's leadership, and will assist with recruitment.

In his own tweet, Kordestani said he was excited to work with Dorsey and his team.

"It's rare you get to be at a company with an amazing business that's also transforming the world," he said. "I've had good fortune to be at three: Netscape, Google and now Twitter."

Kordestani started working at Google in 1999 and was employee No. 11, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He led Google's business operations "from the first employees and the first dollar in revenue to over 12,000 employees and over $20B in revenues," he wrote.

He most recently served as a senior advisor during Google's transition into Alphabet Inc., a public holding company with a new operating structure.
