Google Maps launches a tool that will tell you how busy public transport is in Nottingham

Google Maps is launching a new feature that will tell you how busy your bus, tram or train is.

The savvy tool will base the information on previous journeys of a similar nature and will let you know how crowded that specific journey is.

Nottingham is among a select few cities that will be granted access to this feature.

So anyone travelling to and from work, an appointment or a night out will now be able to make an informed decision on whether to squeeze on one bus or whether to wait for the next one.

It will work the same for both trams and trains in Nottingham and will also apply to tubes in London.

And this isn't the only feature the tech giant is introducing to help ease the stress of travelling.

The Google Maps app will also have a live traffic updates tool so you can find out if your bus or tram is going to turn up later than scheduled.

From today, the crowdedness and live traffic updates features will begin to appear on the Google Maps app, on both iOS and Android.

It is being launched in nearly 200 cities around the world including 18 in the UK.
