Google calendar not working? It seems to be down everywhere

Don't worry, it's not just you - thousands of people have lost access to their Google calendars.

The widely-used application, which comes as standard with gmail accounts, which are used by many workplaces, experienced a "service disruption" on Tuesday afternoon.

Google  has been having problems since 15.09 BST, according to data from website  DownDetector.com , which monitors online outages, The Mirror reports .

While the site doesn't track Google's services individually, the vast majority of comments are complaining about being unable to access Google Calendar.

Users in Northern Europe and the East Coast of the United States appear to be the worst affected, according to DownDetector's outage map, with another pocket of complaints in Japan.

Meanwhile,  Google's own app status page  reports that there is a "service disruption".

"We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Calendar. We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are unable to access Google Calendar," it states.

The cause of the outage is not yet clear. But it seems to have caused confusion, particularly in workplaces.

On Twitter, one person said: "Google Calendar is down and I don't know where I am or where I'm supposed to be."

While another asked the very reasonable question: "So, if Google Calendar goes down, the one thing that tells me what to do and when to do it, does that mean I get the day off?"
