Golden State Warriors 2018-19 season in review: Klay Thompson

Sometimes, playing so many games can take a toll on your body. All of the wear and tear of playing high-level basketball into June for five-straight seasons can be too much for the body to handle.

Continuing to look back at the 2018-19 Golden State Warriors’ season, we review Klay Thompson:

2018-19 season averages

21.5 points

3.8 rebounds

2.4 assists

46.7 percent overall

40.2 percent from deep

Thompson was named an All-Star for a fifth-straight season and for good reason. His catch-and-shoot ability helped the Warriors to the top of the Western Conference for another season and who could forget his ridiculous 52-point game against the Chicago Bulls in October? Thompson was on fire, drilling 14 three-pointers to help Golden State to an easy win.

In the playoffs, Thompson averaged 20.7 points and shot 44.3 percent from deep in helping the Warriors reach the Finals for a fifth-straight season. But that’s when his body betrayed him.

Thompson, who hadn’t missed a playoff game during his tenure in Golden State, suffered a hamstring injury in Game 2 of the NBA Finals in Toronto. He had to miss Game 3. In Game 6, he suffered a torn ACL that ended his, and the Warriors’, title run, which also ended his 2019-20 season before it even began.

Overall, it was another fine season for the Warriors’ sharpshooter, but it ended in a devastating way. Now, fans will have to wait a little before seeing his long-range mastery again.
