JAIPUR: The customs officers at Jaipur International Airport seized 769.50 grams of gold worth Rs 41.62 lakh from a passenger, who arrived by Air Arabia flight (No. G9435) from Sharjah on Saturday morning. He was later arrested, a statement issued by the airport said.
“On the basis of suspicion, customs officers at Jaipur International Airport intercepted one passenger, who arrived by Air Arabia flight from Sharjah on Saturday morning around 4.16am,” it stated. “On being inquired, it raised a few questions. But the passenger could not provide any satisfactory explanation. The passenger also denied any type of concealment. However, he looked suspicious from his gestures and, therefore, the customs officer decided to search the passenger,” it stated.
“During the search of the passenger, nothing was found. However, from his behaviour it seemed that there could be a concealment in his body. Therefore, the customs officials decided to get a medical examination done of the passenger,” it added. “After the medical examination at Jaipuria hospital on Saturday, the doctors recovered three capsules from rectum after a CT scan.”
“Three capsules contained yellowish granules paste packed in transparent polyethylene capsules duly, wrapped by black polythene tape weighing 851 grams.”
As per the statement, 769.50-gram gold of 99.50% purity, valued at Rs 41,62,995 was extracted from the paste and was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
