Gogglebox star Sandra Martin's heartbreak as four loved ones die of coronavirus

Former Gogglebox star Sandra Martin has opened up on her heartbreak after four of her loved ones died after catching coronavirus.

The telly favourite, who appeared on the Channel 4 hit show from 2013 to 2017, revealed she’d lost her sister-in-law to COVID-19 last week, and has since confirmed three more loved ones have died from the deadly bug.

The 58-year-old has been struck by a series of tragedies as she lost her friend’s dad, then her sister-in-law, closely followed by her uncle and a close friend.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk Sandra explained: "She did have underlying health issues before she passed away and my brother, who is now in self-isolation is absolutely devastated by it.

"When I found out I started to cry and my daughter told me to pack my bags so I am staying with her in Brixton at the moment."

She added: "My friend’s dad died first, then my brother’s wife died, my uncle died and my good friend from Brixton died, it is all so tragic. What is going on?"

Sandra has urged the public to listen to the government's advice and stay at home amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She pleaded: "People need to stay home, they aren’t listening. Children aren’t listening to their parents as they aren’t paying attention to the social distancing.

"I know some people are doing the right thing and only going out if necessary but people will keep dying if they don’t listen."

Sandra’s tragedies come hours after she shared a video of herself joining in the Clap For Carers in honour of NHS staff working hard to battle the virus.

The star revealed the loss of her sister-in-law just hours later, posting an anguished message on Twitter : “Am crying. My brother’s wife just died of coronavirus. RIP my sister-in-law.”

Heartbreakingly Sandra had previously told her followers that her brother’s wife and her daughter had been hospitalised, and she was praying for them.

She said: “Just spoke to my brother and they are both still in hospital but critical now. He is at his wife’s side. Pray.”
