Gogglebox star Pete McGarry dies after short illness as family pay tribute

Gogglebox star Pete McGarry has sadly died at the age of 71.

The loveable pensioner joined the show alongside his wife Linda and son George at the start of the second series of the hit Channel 4 show in 2013.

The family from Clacton, Essex, left the show in 2014 so George could make an appearance on celebrity version of Big Brother.

Pete and Linda returned as a duo and became firm favourites with Gogglebox viewers as they bagged a regular slot.

In a statement released on Twitter, Peter passed away with his family by his side following a short illness.

They said that his death is not related to coronavirus.

The statement read: “We are deeply saddened to announce that Gogglebox star Pete McGarry passed away at the age of 71 this weekend with his family by his side after a short illness.

“Pete will be dearly missed by the entire Gogglebox family, cast and crew.

“Our thoughts are with Linda, their children and grandchildren.”

It added: “Since 2000, Pete and Linda have fostered over a hundred children and he is a beloved father, husband and grandfather.

“The family have asked for privacy at this sad time.”
