Goa: In Vasco, police crackdown on public drinking menace

VASCO: With the crime rate in Vasco showing a slight increase over the last one week, police inspector Kapil Nayak, along with his team, initiated steps to crackdown on the dual menace of drinking in public and on suspicious elements moving at night in the port town.

Police conducted an “area domination exercise” at various locations including Mangor, New Vadem, Sainagar and Shantinagar. On Friday evening, they also maintained a vigil during which around four to five individuals under the influence of alcohol were brought into the police station.

Nayak said the crimes are mostly on the lines of assault, theft and fights between groups. Further, he said that it has been observed that some youth unnecessarily assemble at certain locations and indulge in eve-teasing or drinking in the streets, which often leads to group fights and assault.

He also warned of more surprise ‘domination exercises’.
