PANAJI: In a first for Goa, a son of the soil, Vincent Ramos, has been appointed as the senior vice president-Goa for the Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), which operates 21 resorts in the state. Ramos is the first Goan to rise up the ranks within the Taj Group and in his new position, he will provide strategic direction to the group’s hospitality business within the Goa region.
Ramos has been the area director in Goa since 2017 and during his tenure he has been instrumental in the expansion of the group’s brands - Taj, SeleQtions, Vivanta, Ginger, ama Stays & Trails, Qmin, and TajSats.
“I am delighted to execute my new role as the senior vice president-Goa and I look forward to IHCL’s growth in the region, thus contributing towards the state’s tourism growth story by generating job opportunities and other potential prospects for the government and Goans,” Ramos said. Growing up on the island of Chorao, Ramos completed his schooling at Monte de Guirim School and later graduated from the Institute of Hotel Management, Goa.
“Amid the challenging business circumstances posed by the pandemic, Ramos demonstrated exceptional leadership in effectively positioning IHCL’s various brands in Goa,” said IHCL in a formal statement.
Known to turnaround loss-making hotels, Ramos has bagged the ‘Best Hotel of the World Award’ by TripAdvisor in 2016 during his stint leading the legendary Umaid Bhawan Palace, Jodhpur. The most recent recognition includes IHCL - Goa achieving the Best Team Achievement Award for business performance through innovation at the Worldwide Hospitality Awards 2021 in Paris.
Ramos serves as a mentor for the Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s tourism committee and as an executive member with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Goa.
