Go North East announces major bus fare shake up with new zones, ticket types and savings

Go North East is introducing major changes to its bus fares.

The operator - which runs routes in Northumberland, County Durham and Tyne and Wear - is changing its travel zones and introducing new tickets, which it says will save some passengers money.

The changes take effect from Sunday, July 21.

The seven ticket zones have been reduced to four, with two simple fare options. Passengers can either buy a one zone ticket, or an all-zones ticket.

Many fare zones have been extended, so passengers can travel further on a one-zone ticket.

All weekly ticket prizes have been frozen, while a new ' Gateshead saver zone' has been created.

All zone travel tickets have been reduced from £8.20 a day to £7 a day, and from £30 a week to £25 a week.

Most adult fares will be capped, while return fares will be capped at the price of a one-day ticket.

Go North East says: "You'll be able to travel from £20 a week – and even cheaper in our Go Local Saver zones, including our new Gateshead zone, as well as Chester-le-Street, Consett, North Tyne, Seaham and Murton, South Tyneside, Stanley, Sunderland and Washington."

Further information is available on Go North East's better fares website .
