GMB's Kate Garraway blindsided by unexpected start to show as she reveals 'dramas' at home

Kate Garraway was completely blindsided as she was made the victim of a big surprise at the start of Good Morning Britain, with her admitting there'd been 'dramas' at home.

After Susanna Reid had hosted the ITV show from Monday to Wednesday, with her stint including two much talked about interviews with Boris Johnson and Keir Starmer, Kate was back at the helm on Thursday, alongside Adil Ray. But, while she was expecting the early start, one thing she definitely wasn't anticipating was the fact her ITV colleagues would halt the show to wish her Happy Birthday.

Sitting next to Adil as cameras rolled just after 6amn, Kate remarked: "It was my birthday yesterday," as Adil replied: "I wasn't going to talk about that." He was only bluffing though as he quickly added: "I'm only joking," before the sounds of Stevie Wonder classic Happy Birthday filled the air and a cascade of giant balloons appeared on the screen behind her.

As the music continued to play, Kate said: "But I don't feel like it's happened really. We've had various dramas at home," before clocking the balloon and exclaiming: "Oh look at that! If I'm going to get graphic balloons I'm in!" Sitting across from her, colleague Ranvir Singh joked: "Not real ones though Kate. The budget didn't extend to real ones."

Kate then got another surprise when Adil revealed they also had a cake for Kate, with a member of the GMB crew rushing across the studio floor to give it to her, as Adil quipped: "You have to finish it by the end of the show."

Good Morning Britain shared a GIF of Kate's surprise on Twitter and viewers were also quick to wish her many happy returns. One tweeted: "Happy Belated Birthday, Kate. Adil, it's lovely to see you," with another replying: "Happy birthday @kategarraway hoping you had a day as lovely as you yourself are."
