GMB's 'can men be mothers' debate turns into 'farcical' shouting match

Good Morning Britain descended into chaos during a heated debate on whether men can be mothers.

A London theatre sparked a debate on motherhood after they tweeted to call for 'female-identifying mothers' to become playwrights.

Journalist Sonia Poulton said a mother must always be a woman, while broadcaster Amy Nickell argued even men can be a mum.

The debate quickly turned very heated when presenter Piers Morgan claimed the titles were male and female.

Good Morning Britain viewers slammed the guests and presenters for shouting over each other.

Amy said: "I am a woman but I am also capable of the skills it takes to father a child. You’re a man but are capable of mothering a child.

"Although, nurturing, caring, is that in your capabilities?"

Offended Piers reminded Amy that he had raised four children as a father.

Losing his rag, he shouted: "Mothers are women. I hate to break it to you. It's an insult to every damn woman in the country."

The debate turned into a slanging match when Amy claimed she plays the roles of mother and father to her son.

She also said that he sent her a Father's Day card because, to him, she plays both roles.

Refusing to believe her, Piers repeatedly asked: "How many times has he called you daddy?"

Susanna Reid eventually brought the argument to an abrupt ending.

Outraged Good Morning Britain viewers took to Twitter after watching the heated debate.

One viewer said: "Note to @ITV ... Can we please stop the shouting on #GMB in the morn...cant hear a bloody word cos all the people fighting over gender stuff are shouting over one another!! IRRITATING!!!!"

"All shouting over each other ! What a farce," added another.

A third agreed: "Sweet Jesus the Noise . Why does every interview end up with who shouts the loudest"

Many viewers actually agreed with Piers (ITV)

However, some people were shocked to find themselves actually agreeing with Piers.

One fan said: "Oh no!! I am finding myself agreeing with Piers Morgan what is wrong with this country?!?!"

Another added: "Straight away because Piers dares to have a different opinion she gets all aggressive and wonders why he reacts!"
