GMB’s Adil Ray accuses Labour of ‘not caring’ about Boris Johnson flat revamp row

Good Morning Britain's Adil Ray accused Labour of "not caring" about accusations of cronyism and dodgy donors against Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during a row with Shadow Foreign Secretary Lisa Nandy.

Adil began: "Boris Johnson and the Tory government, whether it's accusations of cronyism, and now, who has paid for his very lavish refurb inside Downing Street.

"Yesterday, it seems there was a meeting of opposition leaders who called for this meeting with the speaker, to discuss Boris' lack of truthfulness.

"You'd think that's great, all the opposition leaders coming together to tackle a very important subject that the public are concerned about."

Adil then pointed out no one from Labour was present, and demanded to know why.

"We want to get answers from the Prime Minister right now, I accept that there is a problem with the Prime Minister's pattern of dishonesty, but what we need to know right now, is who is the Prime Minister beholden to?" replied Ms Nandy.

"These lobbying rules, these rules on declaring donations are there for a reason... So we know who the Prime Minister owes favours to."

Adil asked again: "So why wouldn't you join this group? Keir Starmer has already been accused by some of being in the distance with all this, not cutting through."

Ms Nandy replied again that it was because they wanted the answers "right now", but Adil pointed out Labour was instead calling for an enquiry, which would take "weeks and months".

"I am still baffled why you wouldn't join this group, is it political, you want Labour to take more of the credit of being the opposition in this scenario?" he asked.

"Or do you not care about the issue, do you want to join forces with the Liberal Democrats with the SNP and try to get to the bottom of this?

"Instead it seems like Labour want to profit from this," he added.

"We often join forces with other political parties," said Ms Nandy, who insisted: "We will not rest until the public has answers."
