Glentoran boss Mick McDermott hails Deivydas Matulevičius 'quality' as Lithuanian striker joins club

Glentoran have continued their recruitment drive with the signing of Lithuanian striker Deivydas Matulevičius.

The East Belfast club announced the 30-year-old's arrival on Thursday evening.

Deivydas has 36 full international caps for his country, and previously played for Scottish Premiership club Hibernian and Rapid Bucharest in Romania.

The 6" 3' striker becomes Glentoran's seventh new signing since the turn of the year.

The club added Ciaran O’Connor, Keith Cowan, Andy Mitchell, Caolan Marron, Seanan Clucas and Ruaidhri Donnelly in the January transfer window.

McDermott told the club's website: “Deivydas is a very experienced professional. With 36 caps for Lithuania - most recently last October and November against Ukraine, Portugal and Serbia - it shows that he has the quality to succeed in our league

"We have been tracking him and speaking to him for a while and we know that he is a great addition to our team.

"We know our Glentoran community will welcome him with open arms, as it has with all our signings this season.

"We lost a few forwards in the transfer window and lost Cameron with an injury for the next while, so we needed to act in this area.

"We need to be flexible in our approach to various games, so I’m happy we now have a variety of forwards who will give us the flexibility to whatever style we think fits the circumstances.”

Matulevičius could be available for Saturday’s Premiership showdown with Coleraine depending on successful international clearance.
