Glazers backed to sell Manchester United due to fan protests

The Glazer family has been backed to sell Manchester United due to the growing protests from supporters, following the forced postponement of the Premier League clash against Liverpool last week.

United fans have increased the pressure upon the unpopular American owners in the aftermath of the European Super League backlash, with the Glazers among those leading the push for a breakaway continental competition.

Supporters have made their feelings clear and, according to former Sunderland striker, Kevin Phillips, the backlash from the supporters will ultimately lead to a sale.

However, the MEN understands the current stance from the Glazer family is that the club is not up for sale.

"I would think so. It’s only natural. We’ve seen protests before but to actually break into the stadium and let off flares and cancel a game," Phillips told Football Insider when asked if the Glazers would sell.

“It shows you what it means to the fans. It stems beyond just this season. They’ve seen enough, they want to see change. Only time will tell. These people are businessmen and they don’t really care what the supporters think.

“More protests? I hope we don’t see it but you have to take notice and hope we don’t see similar scenes. Let’s hope common sense prevails.”

The postponement of the clash against Liverpool has led to a frantic fixture schedule over the course of the next week, with three matches in just five days.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side travel to face Aston Villa today, then tackling FA Cup finalists Leicester City on Tuesday before the rearranged tie with Liverpool on Thursday.

United's season is then concluded with the hosting of Fulham and a trip to face Wolves on the final day, before the Europa League final against Villarreal in Gdansk.
