Glastonbury has its next two years of headliners booked – four of them reprising previous appearances in the top slot, and two of them new to heading the Pyramid stage bill.
Michael Eavis let the news slip when talking to the BBC at the Association of Independent Music awards in London on Tuesday evening. Emily Eavis had previously confirmed that all next year’s headliners were booked, but her father let the cat out of the bag about 2017.
After this year’s event, William Hill announced its early list of favourites to headline next year, with Foo Fighters, Muse, Oasis and Fleetwood Mac heading the list. Foo Fighters were 3/1, Muse 10/1, and Fleetwood Mac and Oasis both 12/1.
What’s most intriguing is the identity of the two bands who have never previously headlined the festival. Fleetwood Mac are included on that list, but so are Elton John – who dipped his toe into festival culture by headlining Bestival in 2013 – Depeche Mode, Madonna, Adele and Prince, who is believed to have been a target for the festival for years.
