Glastonbury Festival could grow even bigger in 2020

Glastonbury Festival could grow even bigger next year after council chiefs gave the go ahead for a further 7,000 revellers to attend.

That means 210,000 tickets could be sold this October for the music extravaganza at Worthy Farm.

The Somerset event has already bagged the record for being the  largest green field festival on the planet.

It was noted at a Mendip District Council licensing board meeting that the extra 7,000 people would travel via public transport, and that the increase was sought "in order to avoid an increase in the ticket price".

The next festival will take place between June 24 and June 28 2020, and it is expected that the general ticket sale will take place in October 2019, with another ticket resale in spring 2020.

On its website, Mendip District Council states it has "a good working relationship with the festival organisers and all of the partners involved in the running of the event, which is what helps to make it one of the best music festivals in the world".

Public tickets

Tickets sold to regular punters in the public ticket sales.

135,000 + new variation of additional 7,000

Staff/complimentary/performer passes

Tickets covering all staff and performers. This includes performers, medical, security, volunteers, traders and more.

63,000

Local Sunday tickets

Tickets sold to local people that live within a specified radius of the festival. These tickets grant the holder access to the site on the last day of the festival only.

5,000

Total capacity available on current licence  - 210,000
