Glasgow weather: The sunny and rainy days ahead this week as heatwave continues

Oh the weather has been a right mixed bag this week, has it not?

From flash floods and thunder to clammy sticky heat and some sun - we've had a veritable feast of weather highlights.

And, as the temperature is set to reach giddy heights of 22 degrees today, what can we expect for the rest of the week?

In short

According to the Met Office, the sunniest and warmest days of the week this week will be Wednesday July 7, Thursday morning and Friday morning. While the temperatures will reach around 20 degrees, it's going to be cloudy and overcast - so probably humid. The rainiest days will be Saturday July 10, Sunday July 11 and Monday July 12 - when it's to rain basically all day.

So what's the daily breakdown set to be like?

Today:

A largely dry day with sunny spells, although low cloud will affect the Isles early morning and perhaps in the afternoon. A few scattered showers could break out in the afternoon, most likely in the east. Maximum temperature of 21 degrees will hit around 3pm.

Tonight:

A mainly dry evening and night. Clear spells at first, but low cloud increases along the coast overnight, thickening across the Isles to give a little drizzle later. Minimum temperature 11C.

Thursday:

A dry day and cloudy but with some bright spells too. Winds will be light, mainly from the west. Maximum temperature 20C around 4PM.

This weekend:

Showers breaking out by day, these heavier and more widespread over the weekend. It won't be windy.

On Friday it is set to rain from 1pm until 11pm, but will reach 21 degrees at 4pm with a 40 percent chance of rain.

On Sunday it's to rain from 1pm until 11pm similarly, but the temperature isn't reaching quite the heights of Saturday - tipping at 19 degrees. It'll also be cloudy and overcast, with sun only just peeking through. On Monday, it's to rain... literally all day...

How about next week?

We could see a continuation of showers and longer periods of rain going into next week, these potentially heavy and widespread.

From mid-next week onwards, it is most likely turning increasingly settled with a good deal of dry weather, variable cloud and spells of sunshine. For the remainder of this period, there is a chance of warmer and drier than average conditions overall. The occasional spell of rain and unsettled weather are still possible, however, most of the UK could see fine and dry conditions with slight showers at times for some.

Temperatures are likely to be above average... so there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
