Glasgow weather: Storm Dennis to batter city with heavy rain and strong winds today

Storm Dennis is set to batter Glasgow with the city in for a fairly wet and very windy (up to 44 mph) with outbreaks of rain and widespread to severe gales.

As we reported yesterday, the storm has officially become a 'bomb cyclone', according to weather forecasters. That is, it has undergone something called 'bombogenesis.'

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning for rain and a yellow warning for wind, both of which are scheduled to last until 7pm this evening.

As a result, some travel disruption is likely in the Glasgow and Greater Glasgow area, with bus and train services likely to be affected and car journeys taking longer than usual due to spray and flooding on he roads.

ScotRail are advising rail travellers to plan ahead and consider the weather forecast in your area before travelling.

Here's The Met Office's list of things to expect in such weather:

- It’s likely that some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities affected by spray and/or large waves

- Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges likely

- Probably some bus and train services affected, with some journeys taking longer

- Some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport are likely
