Glasgow weather: Met Office extend yellow weather warning as city set for thunderstorms

Some bad news for those of us still clinging to the 'Taps Aff' weather because it looks like some dreich brolly conditions will be heading our way later this week to put an end to it.

The Met Office have now extend their yellow weather warning for the city, meaning that their original warning for Friday (August 6) from 10am to midnight now bleeds into Saturday (August 7) until 9am.

That means that despite highs of around 21C today, that will soon end with temperatures falling to 15C as the rain kicks in.

Weather forecasters warn that the city may experience "slow moving thundery downpours" which can result in localised flooding.

They also warn that because of the heavy rainfall, there may be a "small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater" and that at its worst, some roads may be closed.

Where the rain fall is at its worst, there is potential for 20-30 mm of rain in a short space of time, and during Friday there is a chance that some places could see as much as 80-100 mm build up.

Tomorrow (August 5) is set to be a colder and cloudier day with temperatures reaching 18C with rain expected around 6am.

Friday and Saturday are when the city should expect thunderstorms with highs of 19C and 18C respectively.

The thunderstorms are set to arrive at 10am on Friday after a rainy morning and should end after lunch time around 1pm.

On Saturday the storms kick in much later at around 4pm and should settle before 7pm.

Glasgow won't be the only area to experience the bad weather as much of the UK are set for a wild and windy weekend.

As of right now, there are no other weather warnings although this may change as between August 7 and 16, the Met Office predicts "torrential downpours" in some places with a risk of "strong winds".
