Glasgow weather: Heavy snow forecast to hit Scotland and cause ‘significant disruption’

A weather warning for heavy snow has been issued for Scotland, including Glasgow and its surrounding areas, for later this week.

The Met Office predicts snowfall between 8am on Wednesday (January 13, updated from a previous time of 5am) and 9pm on Thursday (January 14), and states: “There is a chance of a period of heavy snow across this region; should it occur it is likely to cause significant travel disruption.”

As reported on Glasgow Live, another yellow alert for ice was issued this morning, warning of freezing conditions between 3pm this afternoon and 11am tomorrow.

They’re the latest in a spate of weather warnings, as the city has faced over a week of icy conditions - and that forecast looks set to continue until at least the end of the week.

If the city does see more snowfall then the Met Office warns of possible travel delays on roads, as well as possible power cuts - although the current lockdown restrictions mean that fewer people will be on the roads or using public transport, unless their journey is necessary.

The current forecast shows snow falling from 6am on Wednesday - although this could also turn to sleet, reducing the chance of it lying on city roads.

We’ll bring you up-to-date forecasts and all the latest weather warnings as we get them throughout the week, so keep an eye on Glasgow Live or join our traffic and weather Facebook group.
