Glasgow weather as Met Office and BBC issue day-by-day forecast with more rain expected

For most of Glasgow, the past few days have been a mixed bag of sunshine, lots of grey clouds, and unsurprisingly, rain.

But with the colder season well on it's way, we'll soon be sitting down to Halloween films and before you know it we'll be doing our Christmas food shop.

Scotrail tweeted today (September 30) that Scotland would be expecting heavy rain and that passengers must take caution.

They tweeted: "With heavy rain and wind forecast across Scotland over the next few days there may be changes to services if @NetworkRailSCOT need to limit train speeds for safety reasons."

With a weather warning having been in place on Monday for flooding in the city, it seem as if more rain is on the way with rain set to hit the city for most of the week.

Thankfully however the weekend seems to be mostly dry.

Here is the day-by-day forecast as we head into the weekend:

  • September 30 (Thursday): This afternoon further outbreaks of rain will push in from the west, which may merge to longer spells of heavy rain. it will be breezy and cool, strong gusts are likely at times. This evening, it will stay breezy with outbreaks of rain. Overnight, it will remain overcast and unsettled, with sharp showers drifting in from the west. Towards dawn, a few clear spells are likely.
  • October 1 (Friday): There will be a mixture of sunny spells and heavy showers through the morning. During the afternoon, it will cloud over with persistent areas of heavy rain feeding in from the west.

  • October 2 (Saturday): An unsettled weekend is expected as low pressure continues to dominate. Saturday will begin mostly dry and windy. Very heavy rain will move in through the afternoon and into the night.

  • October 3 (Sunday): Sunday will continue unsettled with widespread outbreaks of blustery rain, some gales are likely in places.

  • October 4 (Monday): On Monday, it should become drier and less breezy, with a mix of sunshine and showers.

  • October 4 - 13: An unsettled period of weather is likely across the UK through the first part of this period. Showers or longer spells of rain will affect many areas, these heavy at times, although some drier and brighter intervals are also likely. Strong winds are also possible in places, particularly along coasts. Temperatures are likely to be below average. During the second half of this period, indications are that drier and more settled weather may begin to develop across the south of the UK. Across the north, conditions will probably remain somewhat more unsettled, with further showers or some longer spells of rain and potential for strong winds at times. Temperatures will probably return to near average for most areas.
