Glasgow weather alert for heavy rain and thunderstorms today

Glaswegians have been warned by the Met Office of a yellow weather warning in place for today.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected between 12pm and 9pm, and may cause disruption to transport. Journey times will likely be longer and drivers will be at risk of spraying and flooding on the roads.

Homes and businesses could also affected by the the downfalls, with interruption to power supplies possible too.

A weather warning has been issued by the Met Office today (PA)

According to the Met Office, the heavy rain will move towards Scotland later this afternoon, conditions here having also been showery during the morning. Showers or rain again may also be accompanied by thunder in a few places, perhaps more likely this afternoon.

In Glasgow, rain is likely to be heavier with potentially 20-30mm falling on some parts and as much as 30-5 mm rain in a few spots.
