Glasgow weather: A breakdown of today's temperatures on hottest September day in over 100 years

According to the Met Office, today will be the hottest day in Scotland in more than 100 years.

The national weather service has stated that temperatures could reach a staggering 28 degrees Celsius in parts of the country today, the highest since the start of the 20th century.

The Met Office describe say it will be a "fine dry day" that will become "very warm or hot".

It said on its website: "It could be the hottest September day in Scotland for over 100 years, with September temperatures last reaching more than 28 Celsius away back in 1906."

It comes after a scorching July heatwave that left Scots across the country

Here is an hour-by-hour breakdown of the weather in Glasgow today:

10-11am

After a misty start to the morning, the sun begins to peek out of the clouds.

Estimated temperature: 16°C

11am-12pm

Following the sunny intervals at 10am, the sun will be out in full force and the heat will begin to rise.

Estimated temperature: 18°C

12-1pm

At lunchtime, temperatures really begin shooting up and the sun will remain out for the rest of the day.

Estimated temperature: 21°C

1-2pm

This is when the sun will be at its strongest, so make sure to protect yourself from the scorching UV rays.

Estimated temperature: 22°C

2-3pm

The temperature continues to rise and the UV index remains high.

Estimated temperature: 24°C

3-4pm

Temperatures will begin to approach their peak today at around 3pm.

Estimated temperature: 25°C

4-5pm

This is the hottest Glasgow will get today, with temperatures approaching the September record.

Estimated temperature: 26°C

5-6pm

The heat will continue to peak into the early evening, though at this point the intensity of the sun's UV rays begins to fall.

6-7pm

As Glasgow heads into the evening, temperatures will begin cool down.

Estimated temperature: 25°C

7-8pm

The heat will remain consistent and the sun will remain out for a clear, dry evening.

Estimated temperature: 25°C

8-9pm

Only at 8pm will the temperature begin to cool off as Glasgow heads into night.

Estimated temperature: 23°C

9-10pm

The heat will continue to fall but it will still be a very warm September night, with temperatures remaining above 20 degrees.

Estimated temperature: 22°C

10pm onwards

As Glasgow heads into the night, clouds will begin to form - a sign of things to come tomorrow.

Temperatures will continue to hover around 20 degrees, which may make for an uncomfortably hot night's sleep for some.
