Glasgow water supplies impacted by second burst pipe in weeks as Crookston Road closed

Water supplies in Glasgow have once again been halted by a burst pipe.

Residents of the Crookston area have been without water this afternoon as Scottish Water works to stop the flow of water and repair a burst pipe near The Gables pub on Crookston Road.

Both the G52 and G53 areas are affected and Scottish Water has said that excavation work will be necessary to expose and repair the damaged pipe.

Both northbound lanes on Crookston Road are currently closed while works are underway.

Just last week Glasgow Live reported a burst pipe in Milngavie had led to tarmac being lifted and 100,000 properties being left without water for hours.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: "A burst 15" main located near The Gables pub on Crookston Road has caused customers in the Crookston area to be without water this afternoon.

"We have teams on the ground who are preparing to carry out the necessary repairs. Once we stop the high flow of water exiting the main these repairs will be able to commence.

"Whilst repairs are carried out, we will be introducing water to the network from a neighbouring supply and our teams are aiming to do this within the next hour. This will support in restoring all customers water supply albeit at a lower pressure until repairs are complete.

"We have a number of key customers within this part of the network and our customer support team will be reaching out to these customers to ensure they have the right support during this time."
