Glasgow to say goodbye to first of three huge cruise ships berthed on River Clyde next week

One of the huge cruise liners that has been in Glasgow since the start of the covid pandemic is to set sail next week.

The Azamara Quest will be the first of the three Miami-based Azamara Cruise Liners to leave this coming Monday (July 26).

The huge vessel, which can hold almost 700 passengers, has been berthed at the King George V Dock in Shieldhall since June last year alongside sister ships Azamara Pursuit and Azamara Quest.

Due to the suspension of the cruise industry as a result of the pandemic, cruise lines were required to moor vessels in ports worldwide.

And with UK ports berthing cruise vessels on a temporary basis, including at Rosyth, Tilbury, Bristol and Southampton, Glasgow was chosen as the location to moor the Azamara fleet - which all had skeleton crews of around 40 crew members on board.

A source informed Glasgow Live that the crew are hoping for a proper Glasgow sendoff from locals to match the welcome they received when the ship first arrived on the Clyde.

The Azamara Quest, the middle of the ships at King George V Dock, is scheduled to set sail around 12:30pm on Monday and head down the River Clyde as it departs the city it has called home for over 12 months.
