Glasgow Science Centre goes online to help families during coronavirus crisis

Glasgow Science Centre is doing their bit to keep children engaged with science while the schools are closed due to the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The centre will be releasing free online science content every day at 10am, so that no one has to miss out while being off school.

GSC At Home will include filmed experiments, podcasts, tours and interactive challenges.

Glasgow families have already shown a lot of interest in the initiative that launched on Thursday.

Stephen Breslin, chief executive of Glasgow Science Centre, said: “We had to close Glasgow Science Centre this week for the foreseeable future.

“We launched GSCAtHome to ensure people around Scotland can still have access to science, and have their interest sparked while they’re at home.

“Each day people will be able to see filmed science theatre experiments, we might take them on a tour of the galaxy from our planetarium, or share a blog or podcast.

“We look forward to virtually meeting thousands of people each morning at 10am and we’ll be using #GSHAtHome to keep the discussions going on social media.”

GSC At Home will be available online here and parents are also encouraged to follow GSC At Home on Twitter @GSC1 and Facebook.

Nicola Sturgeon announced on Wednesday that Scottish schools will close by the end of the week as the country responds to the coronavirus crisis.

Although the schools remained open as the number of coronavirus cases continued to grow in Scotland, but the First Minister has said it is “now inevitable” schools and nurseries will close, potentially until the summer.

The number of people who have died from COVID-19 in Scotland now stands at 3, with 227 confirmed positive cases.
