Glasgow's River Clyde 'boggin' as used condoms spotted among sewage

A Glasgow community group has labelled the River Clyde 'boggin' after spotting used condoms floating in it amongst sewage having been flushed down the toilet.

River Clyde Environment Group, which encourages people walking along the Clyde to share and report activities such as any suspected pollution incidents, expressed their disgust and frustration at the sewage floating in the river on social media. They called on locals not to flush waste down the toilet, as it could end up in the famous river - the third-longest in Scotland.

A representative vented on Facebook on Saturday.

They wrote: "The famous River Clyde today. Boggin'.

"Please don't flush condoms, sanitary products and wet wipes down the toilet. Scotland's sewers are struggling as it is."

The sighting of the used condoms and other sewage took place in the Rutherglen area of the Clyde, past the Cuningar Loop car park, around one-and-a-half miles upstream from Glasgow Green.

It comes after the same group shared a concerning video of the Clyde being polluted by raw sewage as the filth flowed into the water back in May.

They reported the sewage issue to The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), who in turn told Glasgow Live that they were working with Scottish Water to resolve the problem.
