Glasgow's NHS staff need scrubs as appeal is launched for seamstresses

An appeal has been launched for Glasgow seamstresses in a response to a shortage of scrubs for NHS staff in our hospitals.

A Facebook group, NHS Scotland - For The Love Of Scrubs, has been set up in a bid to bolster supplies across the country as we battle against the coronavirus crisis.

Last night, Lynne Morrison, the group's coordinator for Glasgow hospitals, put out the call for willing seamstresses in our city.

She said: "I will have precut fabrics ready to sew soon.

"I also have contacts to deliver to QEUH, The RAH and Gartnavel.

"As you can imagine, I’m pretty overwhelmed with the logistics at the moment. Please be patient and I’ll get back to everyone."

Since being posted last night, the comment has been met with a tremendous response, as Glaswegians try to do everything they can to support our NHS heroes.

The Facebook group was set up by Mirka and Maja of Kirkcaldy's Mirka Bridal Couture to help meet the demand and say: "This group is created to help contribute and make scrubs for NHS Scotland staff who are facing a shortage of the necessary work wear.

"I would love to encourage other available seamstresses to join the group and help us make as many scrubs as possible for any hospitals in needs.

"Each set of scrubs requires: - 3.5m of 100% cotton or Poly cotton in colours "Navy", or "Black" and eager seamstresses willing to donate time and effort to assemble the garments."

A wonderful idea!
