Glasgow's City Sightseeing tour buses on hunt for friendly bus drivers with Glasgow patter

A Glasgow open top tour bus has ripped up its recruitment checklist to find Glasgow’s most professional and friendly bus drivers.

City Sightseeing Glasgow run the city’s open top bus tour, which operates daily and serves Glasgow’s main attractions including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, The Riverside Transport Museum, The Tall Ship, Clydeside Distillery plus many popular eateries, music venues and shops.

The team is recruiting part and full-time seasonal bus drivers for what they expect to be its busiest spring and summer since 2019.

The job description for the role would traditionally require professional, friendly drivers with good local and vehicle knowledge – but they've had a wee bit of fun with their advertising campaign.

Bosses are hunting for "pure, dead brilliant" bus drivers with big cheery smiles who would "enjoy driving a belter of a big red open top bus."

Those interested should also know the difference between a 'Glasgow Kiss' and a 'winch' and know their 'lumber' from their Tinder.

The campaign, which will be promoted across the city and online, has City Sightseeing team members as models for a range of promotional materials, including bus rear advertising.

James Gallagher, City Sightseeing Glasgow supervisor, said: “It’s been a tough couple of years, so we decided to throw caution to the wind and have a bit of fun with the team when creating our recruitment campaign.

“Our City Sightseeing Glasgow drivers are professional and friendly and alongside our guides are ambassadors for our great city, it’s our job to know what’s happening in the city and to show people Glasgow.

"It’s not just driving a bus it’s about making visitors time in Glasgow a good one, that not only includes serving our main attractions but having a good knowledge of the city and our sense of culture and humour.”

Colin MacKay, lead driver at Glasgow City Sightseeing Glasgow, said: “We don’t have a castle like our friends in the east, but that’s fine. We have amazing history, architecture, a great music scene and let’s not forget our people, they do an amazing job of showing visitors from near and far that Glasgow is smiles better than all other cities.

“The open top tour bus isn’t your standard bus service, it’s a happy place with people on their holidays and not rushing to work. It’s good craic and I would thoroughly recommend it.

“Every day is a school day from learning new and interesting facts about Glasgow to hearing lots of interesting details of our customers’ countries and culture”.
