Glasgow puppy giveaway as dog lovers bid to share Christmas joy

A couple from Scotstoun are hoping to bring some Christmas joy to someone this festive period by giving away puppy.

Rachel Turner and Ryan Mclean are currently looking after a litter of Chinese Chongqing, one of the rarest breeds in the world.

It is believed that there is only around 2,500 of them in the world, however, the dog lovers want to give one to someone in need of a boost this winter.

Ryan told Glasgow Live why: "My wee brother has down syndrome, my dad got him a dog and it really helped him with his mental health.

"It got him out the house and more active. It also meant his disability didn't define who he was.

"A dog obviously helped him and with us having the litter, we just want to give back. We want to give one to someone who may not be able afford, or have the resources to get a dog.

"We want to give one away to help somebody. Whether they have autism, down syndrome, any illness that prevents them from going out to get them mobilised, to get them to socialise again."

The puppies are still young but they will have all their jags and be ready for collection on December 6. Making them the perfect gift for a person who needs a canine companion to help build their confidence.

Rachel said: "We hope that it can be a Christmas present for someone.

"The two of us, when we've been both separate and together, have always had dogs. From my personal experience I can say they do help 110 per cent.

"I understand they can bring some stress and they do still cost money when you have one but it doesn't compare to the happiness they can bring you."

If you know someone or a family who could do with a pick me up this Christmas contact Rachel Turner on Facebook.
