A Glasgow private hire driver has been sacked after telling a teenage girl in the back seat of his car that she was “every paedophile’s dream”.
The 17-year-old said the driver asked how old she was and that he thought she was only 12 years old. He then described her as a “paedophile’s dream” before saying it was a joke.
The driver has since been dismissed from Network Private Hire, with the firm saying it took “swift and decisive action” after receiving the complaint.
The driver was suspended pending an investigation and later sacked. Glasgow City Council licensing department has been informed.
A spokesperson for Network Private Hire told STV: “We can confirm that we do not tolerate any such behaviour and took swift and decisive action.”
Community group No1seems2care shared thanks from the mum of the girl to Network Private Hire for taking the action on its Facebook page.
The post read: "No right minded person would find his comments, to a teenager girl, regarding the subject of paedophilia funny.
“Paedophilia is no joke, especially in the company of a teenage girl, alone, whilst in the back of a taxi.”
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “We have received notice of this complaint and it will be dealt with in the proper manner.”
