Glasgow pool and gyms to close as £1.8million upgrades carried out

A Glasgow Club swimming pool and two gyms are set to temporarily close as part of £1.8 million improvement works.

Glasgow Life has announced that three Glasgow Club venues will be in line for investment to improve the facilities and provide a better gym experience for customers.

The majority of the funding from the charity will go towards Drumchapel Pool. £1.2m will be spent carrying out essential maintenance including replacing air handling units and the building management system upgraded.

The work is expected to take eight months to complete with the facility to be closed from October 31 until summer 2023. Glasgow Club members will still have access to 11 other pools across the city while the work is carried out.

The investment will also see gyms and studio spaces in Bellahouston and the Gorbals renovated as part of the regular citywide facility refresh programme over the coming months.

The Glasgow Club gym at Bellahouston will get new cardio and strength equipment as well as items for the freshly decorated functional fitness area. The dance studio will have a new floor and feature lighting installed.

There will be a new layout of the gym at Glasgow Club Gorbals, which will include more weight machines, new cardio equipment and functional fitness items. The dance, yoga, and functional studio spaces will also all be refurbished.

The dance at Bellahouston will be closed from Monday, October 24 and is expected to re-open on Monday, November 14. The gym will also temporarily close from November 10 until December 1.

The gym at Glasgow Club Gorbals will close on November 3 and is expected to reopen on November 17.

Bailie Annette Christie, Chair of Glasgow Life, said: “This investment will ensure Drumchapel Pool continues to serve the local community and surrounding areas for years to come. It is scheduled to re-open next year when Glasgow will celebrate its second term as European Capital of Sport. People will return to an improved building and enjoy a better experience at the pool.

“The funding will also allow gym users at Bellahouston and the Gorbals to have access to state-of-the-art equipment. The studio makeovers will allow people to enjoy our wide range of fitness classes in more modern and refreshed surroundings. Improving the quality of these facilities has the power to encourage more people to get involved and experience the numerous benefits of sport and physical activity.”
