Glasgow packaging firm wraps up £4 million takeover

Glasgow-based Macfarlane Group has bought of Ecopac, a protective packaging distribution business based near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire for almost £4 million.

Packaging firm Macfarlane said the deal is in line with its declared strategy of building the business through a combination of organic and acquisitive growth.

Macfarlane Group profits up 20% to £11.2 million after string of acquisitions

It has acquired 100% of Ecopac for a total £3.9 million. In the year ended 31 March 2018, Ecopac generated sales of £6 million and pre-tax profits of £500,000.

Ecopac focuses principally on customers within a close radius of its 60,000 square feet facilities near Aylesbury and is expected to benefit from access to Macfarlane’s extended range of protective packaging products and services.

Ecopac has a team of 21 employees all of whom will remain with the business following the acquisition.

Macfarlane Group saw its sales increased 11% last year to £217.3 million.

“I am confident that the business will prove to be an excellent acquisition improving our geographic penetration and extending our customer reach.”
