Glasgow named one of top five trending UK places to travel to for 2023

Scotland remains one of the top destinations in the world for people looking to travel and it seems the country's biggest city is also grabbing some attention.

Glasgow has just been picked out as one of the top five trending places to travel to in 2023 by a top holiday booking website. The city was named alongside the likes of Newcastle, Manchester and Birmingham by holiday booking website Booking.com.

Part of the holiday specialist's yearly Travel Predictions Report, which reveals the hottest trending destinations for the year ahead, the survey looked at responses from over 24,000 travellers across 32 countries and territories.

The city, which has hit the headlines over recent years after successfully hosting the likes of COP26 and the Commonwealth Games, joined Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Preston in the UK's trending top five, according to Glasgow Live.

The report also found that around a third (33 per cent) of travellers in the UK are seeking "off-grid" style holidays in an effort to escape from the daily grind of urban life.

Glasgow is the ideal combination of an enjoyable city break coupled with the ability to get out and explore the wildness of Scotland at nearby places such as Loch Lomond, Ayrshire and Argyll.

Speaking about the report, senior vice president at Booking.com, Arjan Dijk, said: "If the last few years have taught us anything it’s that travel should not be taken for granted.

"This year’s travel predictions research shows the undercurrent of intentional paradoxical behaviours that will put us all more comfortably in the driving seat amid relentless instability.

"It also demonstrates a desire for travel to be a way to seek unapologetic moments of happiness and escapism to counteract the heavy realities of our news feeds."
