Glasgow lockdown rules: The changes ahead this weekend as Glasgow moves to Level 2

Glasgow will move down to Level 2 lockdown restrictions from midnight on Friday into Saturday this week.

During a Covid-19 update to Parliament this afternoon, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed that the city can move to Level 2 from 12.01am on Saturday.

She said: "These changes are significant. As someone who lives in Glasgow, I know they will make a huge difference to quality of life."

The First Minister said the situation in Glasgow appears to be stabilising, with case rates falling from 146 per 100,000 to 129 in recent days.

Meanwhile areas surrounding the city including Renfrewshire and East Ren, East Dunbartonshire and the Ayrshires will all remain in Level 2 for now as cases remain high and don't currently meet the Level 1 criteria.

  • The maximum number of people you can meet outdoors in a restaurant, café, pub or bar is 8 which can be from up to 8 separate households.
  • Children under the age of 12 do not count towards the total number of people who can meet, but do count towards the maximum number of households permitted to meet. For example an indoor children’s party with 10 children from more than 3 separate households would not be allowable, but 10 children from 3 households could meet.

Travel

  • you can travel anywhere in Scotland in Levels 0, 1 or 2 but must not enter a Level 3 or 4 area unless you have a permitted reason like going to work or caring for a vulnerable person
  • you can travel to England, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands - before you travel you must check the travel rules in those countries
