A number of flats have been evacuated over "noxious substance" fears after a man was found dead in a Glasgow property.

Emergency services raced to Govanhill Street in the south side of the city at around 9am on Wednesday morning.

Police discovered the body of a man inside one of the properties on the street.

Officers are treating his death as unexplained.

Flats were evacuated in the area as officials investigate the possible presence of a noxious substance.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 9am on Wednesday 12 February, 2020, the body of a man was discovered at an address on Govanhill Street, Glasgow.

“A post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the exact cause of death which police are currently treating as unexplained.

“Police and other emergency services remain in attendance and a number of flats have been evacuated as a precaution due to the possible presence of a noxious substance.”
