A Glasgow-based social enterprise providing local, organic grocery shops and veg box deliveries has just been named as the best in the UK. Locavore, which has three sites across the city, has just picked up the Best Shop or Market award at the BBC Food and Farming awards ceremony recently held in Wales.
The awards, which were first launched in 2000 and seek to honour those who have done the most to promote the cause of good food, took place on Wednesday (November 9) at the National Museum in Cardiff.
A judging panel, which included the likes of the presenter of The Food Programme Sheila Dillon, One Show presenter Matt Allwright and restaurateur Asma Khan, celebrated Locavore's commitment to only using produce from their land, local growers, and ethical producers.

More of a community hub than just a food store, Scotland’s first social enterprise supermarket originally began with a store in Govanhill set up by founder Reuben Chester but has since expanded to Partick and Garnethill, as well as shops in both Kirkintilloch and Edinburgh.
It's become known for its low-waste, sustainable products as well as its ethical foods.
Growing their own veg at three sites, which are all within 15 miles of one of their shops, they've since launched a weekly veg box service.
Packed with "delicious, seasonal veg" from the UK, most of which is grown in Scotland, they also offer salad and vegetables grown around Glasgow in the summer month.
The supermarket and groceries offer everything from organic and local cheese and dairy and loose organic grains, pulses, flours, herbs and spices to fresh bread from local bakeries and eco household cleaners.
Nominated by the BBC audience, Locavore's work towards creating an ethical food service to rival that of the major supermarkets stood out for the judging panel.
