Glasgow carer who showed up to work drunk removed from register

A Glasgow carer who showed up to work drunk has been removed from the register.

Kelly Hooper was employed as a Care Worker in July 2021 when she arrived at a service user's home to provide them with care while under the influence of alcohol.

The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) made the decision to place a removal order on Ms Hooper's registration, describing her actions as "a serious disregard" for the register's code of practice.

The decision reads: "You attended work under the influence of alcohol and you were not fit to carry out your duties safely. Alcohol can impair balance, vision and decision making as well as other functions. By attending AA’s home under the influence of alcohol, you put AA at risk of physical and emotional harm.

"The behaviour amounts to a serious disregard for the Codes of Practice for social service workers. It represents poor personal judgment and a failure to demonstrate a standard of conduct that is expected and required of social service workers.

"You have failed to demonstrate insight, regret or remorse or reflected on the impact your behaviour could have had on AA and on your colleagues. You have not provided reassurance that your behaviour would not occur again and there is therefore a risk that it could be repeated."
