Gladys Liu eyes political comeback in Vic

Former federal MP Gladys Liu hopes to be a Victorian upper house candidate for the Liberals. (AAP)

Former Liberal MP Gladys Liu will attempt to revive her political career in Victorian state politics after crashing out at the federal election.

Ms Liu has nominated for Liberal pre-selection for the north-east metro region in the state's upper house, the party has confirmed.

The Hong Kong-born Australian lost her ultra-marginal Melbourne seat of Chisholm to Labor's Carina Garland by 6.41 per cent at the May election.

She previously won the federal seat, which takes in Glen Waverley, Box Hill, Mount Waverley, Burwood East and Blackburn, by 0.57 per cent in 2019 to help the coalition retain government.

Ms Liu ran as a Victorian upper house candidate for the Liberals in 2010 and 2014 and once served as a multicultural advisor to former premiers Ted Baillieu and Denis Napthine.
