Girls Aloud reunion confirmed for Race for Life in honour of Sarah Harding and fans can join them

As fans hope for an event to mark the group's upcoming 20th anniversary, it's been confirmed that Girls Aloud stars will reunite to run a Race for Life in honour of Sarah Harding.

Sarah, who just like bandmates Cheryl, Nadine, Kimberley and Nicola, shot to TV fame at the end of 2002 in ITV's Popstars The Rivals, passed away in September last year after a battle with cancer. All of Girls Aloud were devastated by Sarah's death, each paying their own tribute to the singer, who was regarded by fans as the 'life and soul' of the band who scored huge charts hits with Sound of the Underground, I'll Stand By You and The Promise.

In her poignant and very candid autobiography Hear Me Out, Sarah revealed that the five women had a reunion before her death, joining together in secret for a night full of laughs, tears and nostalgia. And now her former bandmates will pay tribute to Sarah, who was just 39 when she died, by running the 5k Race for Life in London at the end of July.

Announcing the news about them doing the run in Hyde Park., Cheryl told her followers in an Instagram video: ‘Around this time last year when Sarah was really sick, we were all desperately trying to find ways to help her, to comfort her, to do whatever she wanted, you feel so helpless in times like that.

‘One of the only things she really wanted was a gala dinner. So while that’s underway and we are doing that, we felt like we can be doing more."

KImberley also spoke out on the challenge on Instagram, writing: "Me and the girls have teamed up with cancer Research UK to raise money for breast cancer research projects and one in particular that Sarah really wanted to help fund. There will be a ‘Race For Life For Sarah’ which will take place at Hyde Park on July 24. at 11.30am and everyone is welcome."

YOu can sign up to take part in Race for Life for Sarah HERE and, urging people to take part, Kimberley added: "It’s a 5k race you can run or walk and if you can’t be in London on this date you can take part remotely from wherever you are. We would love for you all to join us and help us raise money in Sarah’s name. It’s an amazing opportunity to come together and celebrate her life and also make a huge contribution to the future outcomes of those affected by cancer."
