Girl who launched 'keepy-uppy' challenge to honour key workers nominated for Fifa award

A young footballer who launched a 7.1 million keepy-uppy challenge to honour key workers has been nominated for a Fifa award.

Imogen Papworth-Heidel, 12, raised £22,000 for charity with her challenge to complete one keepy-uppy for every key UK key worker who kept the nation moving through lockdown.

The schoolgirl racked up 1.1million herself, at a rate of 7,000 a day, with the rest “donated” by others.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, Lioness Lucy Bronze and Spandau Ballet star Martin Kemp were among those who joined her challenge.

Imogen, who is up for the Best Fifa Fan award, said: “It’s such an honour to be representing the footballing community who all came together during such a difficult time in the pandemic.

"I want to thank them for raising money for our 7.1 million keepy-uppy challenge and the 7.1 million amazing key workers.”

Imogen, an Arsenal fan, decided to take on the challenge after being inspired by Captain Tom Moore (PA)

Arsenal fan Imogen, who lives in Hauxton, near Cambridge, began playing football aged six.

She was inspired to launch her challenge by Captain Sir Tom Moore, who completed 100 laps of his garden to raise millions for the NHS.

The Fifa award is decided by votes from supporters, with a winner announced on January 17.
