Girl Scouts send a message with new ‘Lemon-Ups’ cookies

There are eight different messages displayed on the cookies, like “I am a go-getter” and “I am a leader.” | Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana

To start the 2020 Girl Scouts cookie season, Girl Scouts has launched a new cookie — and it’s bound to make you feel better.

The new cookie, Lemon-Ups, is a crispy lemon cookie; each one is baked with a motivational phrase on it emphasizing messages Girl Scouts teaches its troops.

“This is something that everybody loves — a cookie with a little inspirational thing on it, or like the Dove candies with inspiration inside,” said Linda Phillip, marketing manager of the Girl Scouts of Northern Illinois. “[The phrases] are something girls can relate to, as well as other people.”

There are eight messages displayed on the cookies, like “I am a go-getter” and “I am a leader.” Britney Bouie, public relations manager for the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana said the phrases highlight the leadership skills the girls acquire while selling cookies and participating in the organization.

“All the young girls participating in the program out here are learning different business processes and financial literacy,” Bouie said. “Here, we get the opportunity to highlight a lot of what they do.”

Lemon-Ups replace Savannah Smiles, another lemon cookie that was retired this year.
