A three-year-old girl has been found dead inside a hot car in the middle of Australia's summer.

The car the youngster was in was found at an address in Morwell, Australia at about 8.30pm on Friday, when the police say the outside temperature was 34C.

Neighbours rushed out to to help while waiting for ambulance officers to arrive but the child died at the scene.

Victoria Police's homicide squad is investigating the three-year-old girl's death and are investigating how the child came to be in the car, including whether she had climbed into the car to play hide and seek.

Acting Inspector Peter Fusinato told ABC in Australia: "The circumstances of how the child came to be in the vehicle are yet to be established."

Police say some of the girl's relatives are still being notified and would not comment further on the case.

They are also offering counselling to relatives and neighbour who tried to help the youngster.

The girl was found dead in Morwell, Victoria, a town about 100 miles of east of Melbourne in Australia.
