A schoolgirl who was the passenger on an e-scooter is fighting for life after a smash with a car in east London.
Paramedics found the 12-year-old and a male rider with injuries following the collision on East Ferry Road, Isle of Dogs around 9.03pm on Sunday.
London Ambulance Service also treated the man in his 20s at the scene near Crossharbour DLR before taking both to hospital.
Metropolitan Police officers also attended and the car driver stopped.
A Met police spokesman said the female passenger of the e-scooter remains in hospital with what is believed to be life-threatening injuries.
He added: “Her next of kin have been informed.
“The driver of the car was not injured. No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.”
The male e-scooter rider’s injuries were not deemed life-threatening.
A police cordon was put in place after the incident.
East Ferry Road reopened to motorists around 5.15am on Monday.
Private e-scooters are not permitted to be legally ridden on roads or pavements in the UK, but are a common sight, particularly in urban areas.
Legal trials of rental e-scooters in dozens of towns and cities across England including parts of London are ongoing.
In November, former Home Office minister Lord Blencathra branded them “silent killing machines”, citing 25 deaths and 100 serious injuries over the past four years.
