Giorgos Giakoumakis 'agrees' Celtic transfer exit as Atlanta win signing race with one Parkhead obstacle left to clear

Celtic striker Giorgos Giakoumakis has reportedly agreed a move to MLS side Atlanta United - but the move has yet to be rubber stamped by the Scottish champions.

The Greek frontman has appeared destined for a January exit after Record Sport revealed that talks over a new Celtic contract has collapsed, with reports suggesting the 28-year-old was on the radar of the likes of Sampdoria and Real Valladolid this month. However, a bumper contract offer from Urawa Red Diamonds had appeared to have convinced the striker over a move to Japan - with the striker set to double his current salary in the J-League.

But a report in Giakoumakis' homeland now suggests that move Stateside is the preferred destination of last season's top scorer in the Scottish Premiership. Greek outlet SDNA are claiming that Giakoumakis has decided to on Atlanta, but he has still not received approval from the Celtic Park chiefs to seal the MLS move.

It is noted that Celtic are expected to grant the move before the end of the window. Reports had previously suggested that the two clubs were in talks over a deal.
